Risolana

Risolana is a community risograph studio located in the South Valley, New Mexico. We see printmaking as a versatile tool for community dialogue where personal and collective expression meet. By providing hands-on access to and training for this unique printing method, Risolana works to encourage ideas, create engaging work, and cultivate an artmaking space as accessible as the risograph itself. Inspired by the New Mexican concept of la resolana, our resolana is a two-page spread open to the sun.

Risolana prioritizes empowering their community by teaching the process and uses of the risograph over simply providing printing services.

Soft Spots Riso

Soft Spots Riso is a Dallas-based Risograph press dedicated to fostering creativity, collaboration, and accessibility in independent printmaking and publishing. Founded in 2022 by artists Kristin Wright and Gino Dal Cin, Soft Spots provides community access to Risograph printing, workshops, and resources to support local artists in experimenting with zine and bookmaking.

Soft Spots Riso also has a Riso School, where anyone can sign up to learn more about the printing process. They offer classes catering to all skillsets, from beginners dipping their toes in printmaking to established professionals.

Surely! Press

Surely! Press is the Houston-based independent publishing project of writer/designer Grant Patterson and Claire Elestwani. Grant (he/him) is a Southern queer, writer, people-watcher, and urbanist. Claire (she/they) is a designer, artist, and educator who uses data, printed matter, and textiles to explore themes of liberation, power, and joy.

Together, Grant and Claire write and produce RISO-printed zines that take the shape of workbooks, cookbooks, poem-generators, card games, and mini-broadsides, among other formats. Surely! Press publications invite readers to seek connection with their surroundings and find delight in the everyday.

Tyler Rico

Tyler Rico is a designer based in Austin, Texas. His practice entails a process-based approach to landscape, exploring themes of time, memory, and the transience of encounter. Primarily taking the form of intimately scaled artists' books and publications, his projects consider the functions and limits of verbal and visual documentation, examining their relationship to abstraction and the potential in between these elements.

His work has been exhibited at Printed Matter's LA Art Book Fair, Multiple Formats Art Book Fair and Symposium, Press Play at Pioneer Works, the Detroit Art Book Fair, and Tropic Bound Artists' Book Fair.

A IS A

A is A is an independent publishing project founded in 2023 by Juan Karlo Muro and Vicente Velázquez III out of a desire to design, print, archive, skill share and further creative work rooted in the San Joaquin Valley. Vicente and Juan Karlo formed a relationship in 2020 over their mutual interest in design and print—more specifically, fine art prints and independent publishing via digital duplicators, copy machines, screen print, etc. They began A is A by offering their print and design services to friends, various artists, and local establishments—people and places that they’re ultimately fans of. This resulted in a chain of cold emails, numerous coffee shop meetings, and late night print sessions at their small, central-Fresno office space.

PAWPRINTZ

Texas State University's riso club will be hosting a fun risograph workshop called "Pinned Together".

Pawprintz is a student organized club from Texas State University that promotes risograph printing as a form of creating art and educates its members on the methods of colorful printing. Pawprintz is meant to be an inclusive space for all artists to express themselves through the economical and efficient risograph. Meetings are biweekly workshops with different themes and ink colors. Each relaxed session presents a new opportunity to explore riso-layering and mediums, from zines to sticker printing. Membership is open towards current students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

Riso-Printing

Riso printing is a unique, eco-friendly printing method that blends elements of screen printing and photocopying. It uses a stencil-based process where soy-based ink is pushed through a perforated master sheet onto paper, one color at a time. Known for its vibrant colors, rich textures, and slight imperfections, Riso printing is popular for art prints, zines, and posters. Unlike digital printing, it works best with bold designs and limited color layers, creating a distinctive, handmade look.
